Expectation

From Matthew Henry’s Family Religion:
We find it possible that children may be sanctified from their birth (Jer. 1:5), that they may be filled with the Holy Ghost from their mother’s womb (Luke 1:15); nay, we find it promised that God will pour his spirit upon our seed (Isa. 44:1), and his blessing, that blessing of blessings upon our offspring (Isa. 59:21); that his Spirit shall be poured out not depart from thy seed; that his Spirit shall be poured upon our sons and daughters (Joel 2:28); that our children shall all be taught of the Lord (Isa. 54:13); and great shall be their peace. The New Testament promise is to us and to our children (Acts 2:38-9); not only that of the forgiveness of sins, but that of the Holy Ghost. These are the true sayings of God, and we may put them in suit, and expect the performance of them for our children, when we bring them to Christ, and O that he would thus put his hand upon them.
