My New Hobby

My dad tells me that when he and my mom read to my sister and me when we were babies, we would sit in their laps nicely and look at the pictures and listen to the stories. I don’t know if it’s a gender thing, but I can’t imagine being able to do that with Nathan. Since he was about, oh, a couple months old, all he has wanted to do when you read to him is grab the book, put it in his mouth, and tear the pages. That means that the only books I can ever pull out around him are indestructible ones.

I had a handful of board books, but not enough to last us until he is old enough to understand how to treat books nicely. My mom told me about an awesome used bookstore, but the prices were still a little more than I was willing to pay. I tried a Goodwill store last week and found some great books for $1 each. I bought mostly board books, but a few other books for when he gets older. Most of the books looked never read, and others just needed a little wipe and they were good as new.

(Not pictured: a nice hardcover copy of Spurgeon’s Morning & Evening that I already gave to my Grandma)

A friend from church told me that she gets great books from Goodwill Clearance Centers for 10 cents a piece, so I’m hoping to go there this week to see if I can find any more good books for even cheaper.
